『春耕行動』器官捐贈推廣步行

 

  香港醫學會及香港移植學會將於二零二零年一月五日假東涌舉行『春耕行動』器官捐贈推廣步行,藉此推動器官捐贈公眾教育、令社會人士了解器官捐贈的意義和重要性,並鼓勵市民於中央器官捐贈登記名冊登記。是次活動獲各大機構支持,協辦單位包括香港器官捐贈行動組、香港移植運動協會、香港女醫生協會、軍事遺蹟保育團、國際獅子總會中國港澳303區、國際扶輪3450地區、國際獅子會腎病教育中心研究基金、香港浸信會醫院、保柏、港怡醫院、卓健醫療服務有限公司、和仁安醫院。

 

  香港醫學會會長暨春耕行動委員會主席何仲平醫生在記者招待會中表示,承接二零一九年一月的器官捐贈推廣步行的成功,委員會決定再舉辦第四屆『春耕行動』。以『春耕行動』命名步行活動,旨在強調器官捐贈的公眾教育須要經過長年累月耕耘,舉辦有關的活動是為了播下器官捐贈的種子,好讓愛心之苗日後可以茁壯成長。

 

  今次『春耕行動』步行活動將於二零二零年一月五日假東涌舉行,開幕儀式主禮嘉賓為食物及衞生局局長陳肇始教授。本次活動現已獲超過百位不同人士報名參與,其中不乏通過器官移植手術重獲新生的康復者。活動以「情繫東涌河」為主題,參加者將從東薈城音樂噴泉出發,步行途經東涌侯王古廟、沿路觀賞生態價值豐富的天然河溪─東涌河,最近返回起點,短短的郊區之旅令人忘卻都市的煩憂。

 

  香港移植學會會長周啟明醫生表示,香港器官捐贈長期供不應求,以晚期腎病為例,截至 2019 年 9 月 30 日,2,310患者正在等待腎移植 ,而他們仍在接受透析。腎臟透析遠遠不及腎移植治療,大型研究證明腎移植接受者的長期死亡率比等待者低 48% 至 82% 。換言之,一位 45 歲的洗腎病人可能的存活率為 11 年,但假如他得到器官移植,可以存活 22 年。香港移植學會會懇請各位市民在中央名冊登記器官捐贈,為本港超過二千多名腎病患者 (及他們的家屬)一個重生的機會。

 

  香港器官捐贈行動組召集人周嘉歡醫生表示,截至2019年11月30日,中央器官捐贈登記名冊登記人數只有315,654人,佔全港人口約4%。根據政府最新調查,香港市民願意死後捐出器官的有31%,不願意的只有12%,還有多於50%的市民未想過,或未決定是否捐贈器官。即使願意捐器官的市民也只有¼的人真正上網登記,半數是不懂得如何上網,可見還有很大的可改善空間。社會除了鼓勵市民向家人明確表達自己願意捐贈器官的意願之外,還需設法協助市民多走一步,上網登記。

 

  謝素華女士是器官移植的受益者,2017年接受肺部移植手術,現已康復。記者會上,謝女士強調器官捐贈對病患以及其家屬都非常重要,在等待期間家人往往要承受極大心理壓力,每個成功捐贈個案都令每個家庭得以重新,非常值得大眾支持。

“Spring Sowers” Organ Donation Promotion Walk

 

The Hong Kong Medical Association (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Society of Transplantation (HKST) will jointly organize an Organ Donation Promotion Walk (Walk) entitled “Spring Sowers”, on 5 January 2020 in Tung Chung to arouse public awareness of the importance of organ donation and encourage Hong Kong citizens to register with the Centralised Organ Donation Register (CODR). The event is co-organized by Hong Kong Organ Donation Action Group (HKODAG), Hong Kong Transplant Sports Association, Hong Kong Women Doctors Association, Field and Mountain Division, Lions Clubs International District 303 - Hong Kong & Macao, China, Rotary District 3450, Lions Kidney Educational Centre & Research Foundation, Hong Kong Baptist Hospital, BUPA, Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital, Quality Healthcare Medical Centre, and Union Hospital.

 

Dr. HO Chung Ping, MH, JP, President of HKMA and Chairman of Spring Sowers, said at the press conference that “Spring Sowers denotes that organ donation promotion was a long term sowing process. The Committee wishes to organize the event every year as an action to support Organ Donation”.

 

This year, Opening Ceremony of the Walk will be held on 5 January 2020 at Tung Chung Citygate Outlet Musical Fountain at 10 a.m.  Professor Sophia CHAN, JP, Secretary for Food and Health will officiate at the Opening. Up to now, more than a hundred of citizens registered for the Walk, some of whom regained new life through organ transplant. The theme of the Walk is “Love by the Tung Chung River”. After the Opening, participants will walk and enjoy the view at Hau Wong Temple, and witness the valuable natural heritage and biodiversity of the Tung Chung River before going back to the starting point. The Walk, which takes about 2 hours, is truly pleasant and relaxing for people living in hectic life.

 

Dr. CHOW Kai Ming, President of HKST, mentioned that “Hong Kong has been facing a shortfall in supply of organs. Taking the End Stage Renal Disease as example, up to 30 September 2019, 2,310 patients are underwent dialysis while waiting for a transplant. According to the research, death rate between dialysis and kidney transplant could be 48%-82%.  In order words, a 45 years old kidney transplant recipient can live 11 years longer than dialysis. The HKST appeals to Hong Kong Citizens to support the CODR to light up the patients (and their family)”.

 

Dr. CHAU Ka Foon, Co-Chairperson of HKODAG, addressed that “the number of registration on Central Organ Donation Registry was only 315,654 up to 30 November 2019, accounting for about 4% of the HK population. According to a survey of HKSAR, only 31% of Hong Kong population is willing to donate organ after death, while 12% reject and more than 50% do not think about it. Investigation showed only 1/4 of those willing to donate organs are in fact registered online, half of them are not familiar with the registration system. In addition to encourage citizens to express their wish to family members, we really need to explore ways to assist for on line registration”.

 

An organ transplant recipient also joined the press conference to share her story. Ms. TSE So Wah underwent a lung transplant surgery in 2017 and has now recovered. She emphasized that “it is important to donate organ to patients and that means a lot to their family facing tremendous pressure.  Every donation matters and gives hope to a family.  All of us should support Organ Donation”.
