(1) 「醫家耆康社區學堂」計劃 - 服務柴灣及葵涌區的長者和護老者;

The Community Service Team of The Hong Kong Medical Association

Spreads Love for HKSAR Establishment Day

The Hong Kong Medical Association (HKMA) upholds the motto “safeguards the health of the people” by actively taking part in the community, caring the elderly and holding various health promotion and disease prevention activities.  While Hong Kong is in the height of the 26th anniversary celebration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day, the community service team of HKMA via two community service projects, Community Elderly Health Academy and Levelling Up COY for Health, will pay home visits to the elderly in Chai Wan, Kwai Chung and Siu Sai Wan from today till mid-July.  A “love” goodie bag will be distributed to the elderly, so while they celebrate the HKSAR Establishment Day, they also share love of the community.

Community Service Committee of HKMA is launching two 18-month community service projects:

  1.    Community Elderly Health Academy – targets elderly and caretakers in Chai Wan and Kwai Chung
  2.    Levelling Up COY for Health – targets elderly and caretakers in Siu Sai Wan

The two community service projects regularly hold health classes, visit and care about the elderly, provide training courses for volunteers, hold outreach days with district social enterprises, etc.  The two community service projects have their own Outreach Ambassadors who are formed by volunteers of medical professionals, students and committed residents in the districts.  In particular, Community Elderly Health Academy uses different means to care about the elderly in the community, e.g. greeting phone calls while Levelling Up COY for Health just started to do game training in the homes of the elderly.

More than 50 volunteers of the above two community service projects will visit and convey love and care to approx. 70 families and close to 90 elderly in Chai Wan, Kwai Chung and Siu Sai Wan from today till mid-July.  The volunteers will check their medication as usual.  In addition, they will remind the elderly what they should take note under hot weather.  The elderly will receive the “love” goodie bags, including toiletries and health food, etc.   We are grateful to our committed elderly volunteers, they will also be gifted the “love” goodie bags.  We wish all the elderly and volunteer team a happy HKSAR Establishment Day!

The HKMA will also use Instagram to provide health information, updates of the community projects, news on recruitment and training of volunteers https://www.instagram.com/hkma_communityhealthacademy/

Follow us to keep updated of health information now!  For those who are interested to join our volunteer team as Outreach Ambassadors to help enhancing the health of the elderly, please stay tuned of the “Volunteer” Section on the “Health Resources Bank” webpage. https://www.elderlyhealth.thkma.org/services-9
